stupid question of the day.....
For those that do not know, I am a nurse. Among the many things I do is pass out juice. We have apple, grape, orange and prune juice. While retrieving juice the other day I had a question that no one could answer....
Why is it called prune juice? Why not plum juice? If prunes are dried plums then is prune juice reconsistuted dried plums? And if so, why?
My curious mind wants to know.

LoL. ok...you asked for it!
A prune isn't just any old dried plum. It's actually a 'prune plum'. That's the name of the fruit when it's growing on the tree. Of course, you could eat this plum fresh from the branch, but why bother when there are so many other varieties? The prune plum is the best type of plum to use for drying because they are able to keep the stone in and not ruin the fruit, (unlike other varieties.)
Once the prune plum has been dried the juice is extracted, which is a lot more intense in flavor and nutrients than if you just extracted it from the ripe fruit.
Got that?
Good!
(Don't you just love google!)
Mis U thanks for the info... apparently I looked in all the wrong places A+ lass
