Home remedys

Soooooooooooo I have been sick recently, nothing major just a head and chest cold. The worst part is the coughing .... excuse me a moment.... (cough, cough, hack, wheeze, deep inhale, hack, hack, bark, bark, cough, bark) ok back sorry about that, and I do cover my mouth. My ribs hurt. Ive coughed so hard that I have thrown up. OK maybe you didnt need to know that, but you get my point, this is an unusually wicked cough. And I do not smoke. Zig does, so yell at him for me will ya?

So growing up, once you hit your teens you got the privlege of hot toddys. The right to drink alcohol with parental consent. I moved down here with Zig a few years ago and was interested to see his family recipe was different then mine.

Mrs. Hot Toddy

equal parts fresh squeezed lemon juice, honey and whiskey, warm gently, sip till you dont care your sick :)

Mr. Hot Toddy

1/2 mug hot tea, lemon juice and honey to taste, generous pour of whiskey... again sip till you dont care your sick.

Hot Toddy

INGREDIENTS

* 1 teaspoon honey
* 2 fluid ounces boiling water
* 1 1/2 fluid ounces whiskey
* 3 whole cloves
* 1 cinnamon stick
* 1 slice lemon
* 1 pinch ground nutmeg

DIRECTIONS

1. Pour the honey, boiling water, and whiskey into a mug. Spice it with the cloves and cinnamon, and put in the slice of lemon. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes so the flavors can mingle, then sprinkle with a pinch of nutmeg before serving.

HOT LEMONADE

INGREDIENTS

* 3 cups boiling water
* 3 tablespoons honey
* 1 lemon, juiced
* 3 tablespoons rum

DIRECTIONS

1. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil. Remove from heat, and stir in honey, lemon juice and rum.

The Hot Toddy

While most recipes for the hot toddy use whisky, water, sugar, lemon and cloves, here's an entirely different one:

* Boil one cup of milk.
* Add sugar to taste.
* Top up with as much whisky as you see fit and drink.

The combination of hot milk and whisky induces a sort of soporific stupor that will eventually lead to a good night's sleep - which is exactly what a cold demands (all those old wives are right). A posher alternative is to make yourself a steaming cup of hot chocolate (cocoa doesn't seem to work as well) and bung in a measure of brandy.

Family Concoctions

My auntie says that a hot lemon drink with a drop of whisky, a teaspoon of honey and a pinch of cinnamon mixed in does wonders. It clears up nasal blockages and gives your body a vitamin boost.

My grandmother every morning adds apple cider vinegar, blackstrap molasses, cayenne pepper, and brewers' yeast to spring water and drinks that. She says it's good for you, and she's a spry lady indeed.

Vodka

The Russian cure goes something like this:

*

Buy a bottle of pepper vodka
*

Get yourself to a sauna
*

Sit, sweat, and drink the vodka

If for any reason a sauna is not available, run a bath as hot as you can stand it, sit, sweat, and drink the vodka.

Please share your personal favorite remedies. I am very curious. and sick. Help a poor lass out will ya?

I've been suffering with cold too. Can't seem to shake it off. Had it about 3 weeks now, it just keeps moving to different parts of my body.

The only thing I can suggest is plenty of alcohol in whatever form you like.

I hope you start to feel better soon. *hugs*
